Winter Adventure Therapy for Anchorage folks   Leave a comment

I’ll be opening spots for a selected group of students to join me for ABC Family Therapy’s winter series of adventures, called, Winter Adventure Therapy.

What is this?

Well, WAT is a weekly group therapeutic adventure group that meets together to have fun, work through personal and group based tasks, and process these with a Licensed Professional Counselor (DB Palmer) and adventure leaders.

We work on a range of issues, and primarily are a fit for students who are:
-beginning to act out in class, but not in trouble… yet.
-having trouble paying attention in class.
-having a hard time with boundaries and behavior at home or in class.
-Good kids who need some work in order to get back on track.

Know anyone who fits this description?
If so, contact us at either our phone line (206)427-0931 or via email at abcfamilytherapy@hushmail.com

We’ll get this going forward pretty soon. Stay in touch, and get outside!

I am leaning toward offering individual sessions at ABC Family Therapy (for this summer), but I recognize that group sessions are more likely to solve the problem of waitlists. I’m a huge fan of group work, especially in adventure therapy; so for me it’s about what do you want to see? I’m happy to work with our ABC Family Therapy staff in either/both options.

So, what do you think?

As we look toward starting our Anchorage operations, which mean that Seattle takes a back-burner for a short bit; we are excited about getting to know what you think about our site, our options, and if you want to get on the list.

Alaska Pacific University and DB Palmer host Wilderness Therapy Retreat   Leave a comment

Alaska Pacific University's Wilderness Therapy Leadership Skills Retreat

I was privileged to host/lead the first Alaska Pacific University Wilderness Therapy Leadership Skills Retreat this semester for undergraduate and graduate students. I’ve gotten requests from the Alaska Counseling Association to host a retreat for association members, and I’m looking at a few other ideas which will help practitioners and students gain a more solid sense of both the lived experience and programming options for referral.

I produced a video to wrap up, just a bit, of what our winter trek entailed. Here’s the video.
